Life is Funny - 4/27

Triggered by unique grooves in Boswell’s ID cog, a request for supplemental gears is dispatched to the public privacy datastore at the Lord Mayor’s office. Subterranean tubes under fantastic pressure ferry the request across Shaletown and retrieve updated cuts. They return in a measure of heartbeats and are loaded into the reader. New text appears at the bottom of the display plate: "BOSWELL" WANTED: 4 COUNTS ASSASSINATION; LONGBAISSE INVESTIGATION; DANGEROUS.

The warmth in the hall becomes stifling. Haley tenses. Boswell smiles into her green eyes with his blue.

"Death is funny," he says.

Haley is unable to reply.

"Well I think death is funny," says Boswell.

"You're a killer!" says Haley.

"Shocker, isn’t it?" says Boswell as he leans against the desk. "But the prison psych did say I should do what I enjoy."

Haley says, "Psychologist? What are--Why?" There has to be a reason for Boswell walking into an Imperial library and slapping down an ID cog that dispatched a summons for all Grays within riding distance. There are probably several reasons, but Haley feels it is her job to figure out the one that doesn’t end in her death. He’s probably not here just to panic a librarian, so Haley remains calm. Holding his eyes, she asks, "Do you need help finding a book?"
